Braces: scared? wondering...?

i am getting my braces off sometime in the near future ( before Christmas i'm hoping)
i wanted a little more information. Like, i know that some people feel PAIN when they get their braces on, and some people have nothing.... is this the same for getting them off? Oh, and if i have little white quares on my teeth from the brackets, can they be whitened off with like Crest Strips, or are those stunk in my future wedding photos? and do the scrub harder with the thing they used to get the cememt off if there are quares?
also, what is the procedure when i get them off? Thanks for any info...

I am an expanded duty dental assistant. I have put braces on and off many many kids.............the pain that you might be talking about is the pulling sensation as I would try to wiggle the glue loose underneath the brackets..........thats basically all it is, a dental type of "glue" that just bonds to the surface of the teeth.........depending on how much the doctor or assistant used with you............how strong the bond............the harder we might have to work to get it off.

as for the white squares........the assistant or doctor will take the little drill polisher and polish the glue off. the doc i work for always prof. whitened his patients teeth when we debracketed - its a celebration! Not only do you have straight teeth, but the braces have allowed your jaws to grow symetrically giving you a prettier profile!

ah i am picking up so many great tips from this!!
a few of mine

- run cold water over my nail varnished hands.

- put Vaseline on my eyelashes, makes them longer

- drink lots of water...hardly a secret though

- use the blobby bit on the end of the mascara and run it along my lashes to give them more volume.

- use my hairdryer to blow dry my eyelashes upwards, to give them some curl and dry the mascara before applying the next layer

- try not to touch my face a lot through the day because the dirt from hands just goes onto my face and can lead to clogged pores

- always always always have big hair and use loads of hairspray, so if im having a bad face day, my hair can distract

- smile lots
