Can beagles be good watchdogs ?
I'm taking my time doing lots of research on types of dogs to consider for my family. I'm a stay at home mom and my husband travels alot, plus my kids have been begging me for a dog for a couple of years now. Looking for a watchdog (warning bark at least), great with children, playful, easy care coat and not a whole lot of health problems. My husband keeps telling me we should go for the beagle, but I'm finding out they can be stubborn. Have a few breeds in mind: Lab (grew up with 4 of them as a teenager) , Boxer, pug, boston terrier ??
Beagles are cute and can be protective, but not protective like the boxer.
I have a boxer and she is great with children, and does if a stranger comes by she'll bark! She is very protective of children when they surround her. She allows the children to tug at her tail, pull her ears, but when its ready to protect, she will!
Good luck!

I worked for English Channel for a year – a couple of years ago – I had to wear a blue lab coat – as I was told I was playing the role of a nurse – whereas the Korean teachers wore white lab coats as they were playing the role of the Doctor – and the learner was the patient. When I was first told about the lab coats I thought they were pulling my leg, but I soon learned that the lab coats were not a joke and had to be worn at all times – I soon got over my initial embarrasment at having to wear the coats – We were told that on a certain public holiday English Channel would be marching as part of the parade through central Seoul – and we were paid 50,000 won if we wore our lab coats – no lab coat no money – I guess its a success for English Channel as they are continuing to expand – I actually think its the locations of their schools that is the key to their success. But who knows??!!
NOTE: Springer rage has been re-studied and found more to be a fear than a “rage”. Ninety percent of all “rage cases” have been found to be dogs that were going blind, going deaf, or were cornered. With my jasmine she was going blind. One vet said springer rage and I almost put here down. It took guys with PhD`s and fancy lab coats to convince me it wasn't real. Just like with Santa(LOL) but seriously, there is no condition outside of rabies that “MAKES” a dog violent.
You just fired the Liberal Arts Department, the Fine Arts Department, the Administration building, the Board of Trustees, campus police… That pretty much leaves Grounds Maintenance, the custodial staff, a few secretaries, undergrads downloading GB/day each of porn, bad music, and hackneyed videos… and folks in lab coats financing the university with grant funding overhead fees. How smart are they?
You sound angry… and I like it.
