Can beagles be good watchdogs ?
I'm taking my time doing lots of research on types of dogs to consider for my family. I'm a stay at home mom and my husband travels alot, plus my kids have been begging me for a dog for a couple of years now. Looking for a watchdog (warning bark at least), great with children, playful, easy care coat and not a whole lot of health problems. My husband keeps telling me we should go for the beagle, but I'm finding out they can be stubborn. Have a few breeds in mind: Lab (grew up with 4 of them as a teenager) , Boxer, pug, boston terrier ??
Beagles are cute and can be protective, but not protective like the boxer.
I have a boxer and she is great with children, and does if a stranger comes by she'll bark! She is very protective of children when they surround her. She allows the children to tug at her tail, pull her ears, but when its ready to protect, she will!
Good luck!

I certainly hope so!! Our health depends on it! Greed never translates into higher quality care or services or products. We need to invest in and educate ourselves in alternative medicine and learn how to become our own doctors and take responsibility for our own health, rather than leaving it to the people in white lab coats and the companies that manufacture pills.
Double coated breeds like Shelties, Collies and Pomeranians, shed out their soft under coat in the spring and in the fall and it is referred to as blowing coat. Some dogs with shorter coats will also shed more in spring and fall but not like a double coat. Females will sometimes blow their coat after whelping also.
Why is this a problem, whatsoever?
White lab coats, which supposedly be washed everyday, aren't washed because many hospitals don't even provide such service. Many of our medical practitioners need to bring home their lab coats so that they can be washed, but only after several days. The bacteria have already accumulated, and they're going to migrate to a home. That's a real bad situation.
You just fired the Liberal Arts Department, the Fine Arts Department, the Administration building, the Board of Trustees, campus police… That pretty much leaves Grounds Maintenance, the custodial staff, a few secretaries, undergrads downloading GB/day each of porn, bad music, and hackneyed videos… and folks in lab coats financing the university with grant funding overhead fees. How smart are they?
Okay, but will John Boehner hand out lab coats at the press briefing?
Why are these people are so amazed that they would have this device in ancient Greece. People have been observing the sky for thousands of years by then. Even though most people didn't have the skills to build something so intricate, some did. It's the same today. Most of us could not build it but this guy does and has the skill. It's less abstract a task than programming a modern computer, since each gear represents the orbits and rotations. They just had to know ratios.
“Still, whether public or private, if you're going to call it science class, then it's science you ought to be teaching, not fairy tales.”
Very well said. If they want to teach ID, teach it in philosophy class, and point out that it is mostly a metaphysical (and not scientific) argument for God. It's Paley's watchmaker argument, in cheap lab coats.
len,
…because if you are indeed that len N., then let's run a sim of the CA goddam school system once and for Jon and all, just for the hell of it. Three days, two nights. I'll find the money for the clipboards and the lab coats, OK?
It'll be good, for you and your bosses. After all, the second biggest school system belongs to my beloved Naval Service, man…
I've been laughing about it all day….hahaha first Obama says we can't trust DRs because they cut our legs off for 500,000 and do tonsillectomies for money but now we should trust them because this set of Drs agree with him…….lol. I guess the libs would be proud of him.
