   To Amy (with the Kell questions), I just wanted to let you in on what happened to my husband and I recently in regards to the Kell Factor…We have an almost three-year old son who is healty and that pregnancy with him was also healthy, antibody screen was negative. Then we had another son last June(2009)with an un-eventful and healthy pregnancy. So I thought!! I went in to be induced two days before my due date (already having contractions) and our world came crashing down. The baby (Luke Thomas) did not have a good heartbeat and after trying to get him to “wake up”, he was unresponsive. So specialist was called in, did ultrasound, then realized there was no amniotic fluid around him, and he was in big trouble. Long story short, my first born is Kell positive and so birth to my first child I was exposed. And when I had my antibody screen done for my second preg it came back negative!! Well, we know now that it absolutely was a FALSE negative. So my second child was never monitored and never had the doppler flow done to watch for anemia, and so on. My 20 week ultrasound (only one I did) looked OK. But all was not ok, and Luke was severely hydropic. So cute on the outside (a big 9pounder) but really beaten up on the inside. If only my bloodwork would have come back correct. I wanted to tell you, from a personal standpoint and not medical, that you cannot always trust all bloodwork. We are now seeing a specialist who recommended the Blood Center of Wisconsin to have our blood sent to for top-notch work. She says they are the premier place in the country, if not the world, for test sensitivity. Come to find out, the day I had Luke my levels were 1:32 at the hospital lab. So I went back to my OB 4 weeks postpartum and they did the antibody screening bloodwork again just to double check- Negative again. So we then sent off our bloodwork to Wisconsin about 9 days later. It came back that my antibody levels were a whopping 1:256 and of course my husband is K1:k1. So let this be a lesson that you have to be your own advocate and go with your gut. Please demand more bloodwork/different lab for your husband and get with a specialist to monitor your baby. My son suffered so much, both in-utero and for a month in the NICU. As cute as he was, he had suffered a great deal of oxygen loss, so brain, kidneys, and heart were not functioning. The doctors decided to take him off of life support after about a month of trying to help him. I am so glad he is not suffering anymore, but it was/is devastating to lose him, especially when I thought I was having a perfectly normal pregnancy. So, please demand what you want as far as bloodwork. It is evidently not 100% in all cases. Good Luck and stay positive and informed. Christine

   I saw my Acupuncturist for the first time, and at first didn't notice she was preggers (she was wearing a black knit dress under her lab coat) when she mentioned it I made sure to look b/c of SP. She looked like she swallowed a watermelon! Just like a couple of the petite women's pics you posted. You will notice SP looks padded, all over.What a joke she is!

   My mother bought me too lab coats for my internship at the hospital!! Can someone say tears!!!!!!
